Heating advice

Should you service a heat pump before winter?

Autumn is a practical time to make sure a heat-pump system is ready before heating demand reaches its seasonal peak.

Why timing helps

A fault discovered during mild weather is generally less disruptive than one discovered during a cold spell. Servicing before winter also gives time for any recommended remedial work to be considered.

Outdoor unit condition

For air source systems, accessible outdoor-unit condition and airflow are relevant. The unit should have the clearances specified by its manufacturer.

Heating-side checks

Heat-pump performance depends on circulation, system pressure where applicable, controls and emitters. Maintenance should therefore consider the heating circuit rather than focusing solely on the outdoor unit.

Ground source systems

Ground source maintenance can include checks of the collector/brine circuit and frost protection as applicable. Read our ground source servicing guide.

Recent winter preparation

Envirowarm's project experience includes servicing a Samsung 12 kW air source heat pump at Ryehill in preparation for colder weather, alongside LG and NIBE systems.
